šA Rainy Day Back at School
On February 27th, more than 20 Master Gardener volunteers gathered at Brunswick Community College for our latest Field Trip Friday. The weather outside was dreary and rainy, but inside the classroom we received a bright and engaging presentation from Heather Hardie, Director of the BCC Horticulture & Turfgrass Department.
Heather shared an overview of the collegeās horticulture and turfgrass program and the many career pathways it supports. The program prepares students for employment across a wide range of horticulture-related fields, including nurseries, garden centers, greenhouses, landscape operations, and turf maintenance. Graduates also find opportunities working with governmental agencies and parks, golf courses, sports complexes, highway vegetation programs, and both private and public gardens.
For Master Gardeners, the presentation offered a helpful look at how the next generation of horticulture professionals is being trained right here in Brunswick County. It was inspiring to learn about the breadth of careers connected to plants, landscapes, and turf managementāand to see how BCC is preparing students for these important roles in our community.
It was a dreary, rainy day, but Heather enlightened us on this great program in a comfortable classroom.
