Description:  This plant is easily grown in dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of heat, humidity and some drought. Plants may be sheared in mid to late summer to promote a fall rebloom and to remove any sprawling or unkempt foliage. It has 1 ½ in. wide, ruby to wine red ray flowers with gold disc flowers that will keep their color and rebloom all summer if cut back.  Does not self-seed. Suitable as a border plant.

Historical Uses:  Flowers were boiled to make a tea. The roots were steeped into a tea that eased the symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal discomforts. Folklore indicates that the tea was also supposed to protect the drinker from being hit by lightning.
