Plant has no serious disease problems. Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Best performance occurs with consistent, regular moisture combined with sharp soil drainage, particularly in winter. Can pinch spent flower spikes to encourage additional bloom. Plants may be cut back to basal growth after flowering. Grown for value as a cut flower and use in containers and borders.

Soil Moisture: Medium Salt Tolerant: Yes
Mature Height: .5 – 1 ft Deer Resistant: Yes
Mature Width: .5 - .75 ft
Bloom Color/Bloom Time: Blooms blue-purple mid-June to August.
Historical Uses: While many Veronica species were historically used in herbal medicine, V. spicata 'Royal Candles' is a modern, cultivated variety bred specifically for its ornamental characteristics. Veronica spicata first documented 1680 in America.
Wildlife Values: Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees with its deep violet-blue flower spikes. It is notably deer and rabbit resistant, making it ideal for sunny, low-maintenance landscapes and cottage gardens.
