🧱Quiet Dedication, Solid Foundations: Honoring Dave Kirk

For the month of September we are recognizing Dave Kirk as our Master Gardener of the Month.

Dave is one of those invaluable, quiet Master Gardeners who works diligently behind the scenes, contributing greatly to our association's success. His computer skills have been instrumental since he joined the program. As an intern, he used his expertise to map our intern project at the Rourk Library and later mapped the Botanical Garden as Co-Lead. His mapping skills were also vital for detailing the landscapes of Habitat for Humanity houses.

Beyond his technical abilities, Dave is a steadfast leader and hands-on volunteer. As Co-Lead of the Curb Appeal Garden, he was there weekly, ensuring it was in pristine condition. This year, he has stepped up to lead this project entirely. He has also taken on the significant responsibility of co-chairing the Botanical Garden. He co-leads Pad Maintenance, which includes the greenhouse, hoophouse, shade tent, and pad.

He was a major contributor to several large-scale projects, including digging out the Rain Garden, constructing the new Crevice/Rock Garden, laying sod in Celebration, installing the bottle wall, working on the tool shed, and rebuilding the Fort Fence. He consistently assisted with plantings for Habitat for Humanity houses.

If there is a big project, you can be sure Dave will be there with his time, expertise, and labor. He is an outstanding individual and a pleasure to work with.

As a non-profit organization, we are dependent on volunteers like Dave for the health of our plants, the vibrancy of our Botanical Garden, and the strength of our entire Master Gardener community. We extend our sincere appreciation, gratitude, and overwhelming thanks to Dave Kirk. We are delighted to present you with the honor of being our Master Gardener of the Month for September 2025.
