🌹A Lasting Legacy in the Garden

The July Helping Hands Award is awarded to Anne Coleman!

Anne has been a Master Gardener for 12 years, and throughout that time she has been instrumental to our organization. She has demonstrated outstanding leadership, vision, and dedication through her many roles within the Botanical Garden and the Association.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Anne when I was an intern and had the opportunity to co-chair the Celebration Garden with her. For those who may not know, the Celebration Garden was Anne’s idea. It was established in 2019 as a place of beauty where friends, families, and members of the community could gather to celebrate any occasion. The public can use this space free of charge, which reflects the generosity and welcoming spirit behind Anne’s vision.

Recently, we held a celebration of life there for Pat Naughton, who helped build the arbor and benches that make the garden so special. Surrounded by the green and white flowers, the space feels peaceful, tranquil, and full of meaning. That is exactly what Anne hoped the garden would be: a beautiful setting where people can come together, remember, celebrate, and find comfort.

Anne also oversees the Rose Garden. Under her guidance, it has become a beautiful and welcoming part of our Botanical Garden. Her knowledge of roses is remarkable, and she shares that knowledge willingly with fellow Master Gardeners. She is a wonderful mentor, and I know she has encouraged and guided many people along the way. Anne is the kind of person who always seems to have something kind to say and a smile to offer.

I am so pleased to present Anne with July's Helping Hands Award because she truly exemplifies what it means to be a Master Gardener. Her leadership, kindness, knowledge, and dedication have made a lasting impact on our gardens and on all of us. And most importantly, I am grateful to call her my friend.
