It is a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) and In the spring, green leaves emerge on upright arching stems. In the summer it bears clusters of pale pink flowers that mature to berries in the fall. The shrub prefers full sun to part shade and is intolerant of deep shade. It will grow 3-8 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet wide in all types of soil provided it has good drainage.
