🎡Wilson Gardens & Whirligigs
Kudos to Gayle Pfeiffer for organizing yet another stellar Field Trip Friday—this time to the Wilson Cooperative Extension Demonstration Garden, Wilson Rose Garden, and the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. Many thanks to Wanda Maggart for arranging a special appearance by Sam Price, whirligig conservationist and creator, who shared his expertise with our group. The whimsical park proved to be a true wonder, sparking ideas for our own Botanical Garden.
Special thanks also to Shawn for driving the van and keeping us rolling smoothly! With 23+ attendees, the trip was full of lively conversation and inspiration. Members were especially excited by the garden plants and hardscapes, with plenty of ideas to bring back to both our home gardens and the Brunswick County Botanical Garden. One highlight: Anne Coleman went home with a couple of root beer plants from the Wilson Demo Garden (graciously shared, not stolen!).
Perhaps most exciting of all, discussions are underway about adding a whirligig to our own garden. Wilson BG had several on display, and Sam Price himself plans to visit us to explore site options, costs, and a custom design to make this dream a reality.
