Step into the beauty of the Brunswick County Botanical Garden this September and enjoy a Story Walk! From Monday, September 1 through Tuesday, September 30, visitors of all ages can explore the gardens while discovering From Seed to Plant by award-winning children’s author Gail Gibbons.
Not familiar with Story Walks? A Story Walk is a self-guided outdoor reading adventure where pages of a children’s book are displayed along a walking path. Created by the Brunswick County Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers, this family-friendly activity combines the joy of reading with the beauty of nature. Start to the right of the front door of the Extension, between Live Oak and Shady Curb Appeal gardens, and follow the story page by page as you stroll through the seasonal plantings, pollinator beds, and demonstration gardens. Move at your own pace—there’s no set start time, and no cost to participate.
This season’s featured book introduces young readers (ages 3–7) to the fascinating life cycle of plants. With simple language and bright illustrations, Gail Gibbons explains pollination, seed formation, and germination in a way that’s both educational and fun. Families will also find activity suggestions posted along the walk, plus free take-home activity packets available in the Little Lending Library in the Discovery Garden.
The Brunswick County Botanical Garden is located outside the Brunswick County Extension Office at 25 Referendum Drive, Building N, Government Complex, Bolivia, NC 28422. Admission and parking are free, and no registration is required.
Come read, explore, and discover how seeds grow into the plants we love!
